Shea butter is produced in a complex production process (see also the section Quality through careful production) from shea nut. Shea nuts ripen on the shea tree, which grows only in the so-called shea belt of Africa. This is an area of about 300km north-south latitude, stretching from Senegal to Sudan. But why is shea butter such a valuable product?

Farewell - Quality shea butter has the highest proportion of unsaponifiable vegetable fats

The unsaponifiable part of shea butter is said to have excellent skin care properties. So says a consultant of an American development cooperation organization with reference to research findings:

Shea butter contains substances with a variety of therapeutic benefits such as UV protection, regenerative, anti-eczema and anti-wrinkle properties.

The American Shea Butter Institute also points out the high proportion of substances with healing properties in shea butter. The healing substances consist of nutrients, vitamins and other "pythonutrients". Other oils would also act as moisturizers, but they did not contain any or virtually no healing substances. Therefore, it is not surprising that the research reports present an impressive array of applications for shea butter. Especially unrefined shea butter is very effective... so many things that I would like to point out our tips for using shea butter. It is at least just as informative to have a look at our customer opinions section. Shea butter users describe their personal experience and the effect of Shea WaLe Shea butter.

Please note: According to the American Shea Butter Institute, these properties depend on the type of shea butter you use and whether chemical additives or preservatives have been added.

Only shea butter and a flawless production process ensure the full, often praised care effect of shea butter. Incidentally, it can be assumed that the shea butter additives (INCI designation: Butyrospermum Parkii Butter) are chemically refined in standard cosmetic products.

Independent experts assure that handmade shea butter is qualitatively more valuable than machine-made or industrially produced shea butter. The higher the quality of the handmade part during production, the more impressive the product feels on the skin and the more valuable it is to look at. Unfortunately, you can assume that most of the shea butter on offer has been machine-made.

That's why our shea butter is a handmade product made without additives and in the traditional way (read more about it and the differences between Shea WaLe Shea butter and our premium product "Beurre De Karité Sensitive" in the section "Advantages Shea WaLe Shea Butter").

Characteristics of pure, unrefined shea butter:
As a general rule: Shea butter is beige to yellow in colour. All other colours indicate that production errors have been made or that the product is a replacement product, which is mistakenly called "100% shea butter". A white colour could also indicate that the shea butter has been refined. High-quality, unrefined shea butter has a discreet, characteristic odor that disappears after a short time after being applied to the skin. This smell may take some getting used to at first, but the smell is a sign that you bought a natural, untreated shea butter with great skin care properties. Shea Wale's improved production methods make it stand out -according customer feedback - Shea butter from sheabutter-ghana.de, not only regarding the smell, positively from other providers. Very important, not only for the smell, is a strict selection of raw materials: bad, rotten shea nuts lead to poor shea butter, no matter how good the production process is. Therefore...

... only strict quality control guarantees the production of a high quality shea butter.
